Galax High School has been known for many years as a hotbed of talent in the more individualized sports of tennis and golf. Doug Bryant and later his son Sam, along with the McKnights, have been golfers of note from this area. Tom, son of Fuzzy McKnight, who even competes on the Senior PGA Tour.
